Travel Recap: 3 Days in Miami (+Video!)

Back in January I had a hiatus week at work so Nicole, Catherine and I planned a short trip to Miami, Florida.  We left not really knowing where we would stay or what we'd do when we got there but we plan as we go and we had a great time.

We got in at the end of the day on a Tuesday and stayed with Nicole's friend on a small island called Belle Island. I woke up early to capture the sunrise over South Beach and the views of downtown were amazing.

We decided since the sun was out to drive down south to the Florida Keys. Key West was our goal and the drive was about 3 hours but was interesting how so many little islands were connected.  We took pictures at the southernmost point, saw a sailing regatta taking place off shore, had a slice of key lime pie and went jet skiing.

We drove back to Miami as the sun set. We got a room in the Versace Mansion, now a hotel called The Villa Casa Casaurina. It had Spanish style architecture and beautiful mosaic detailing, it felt like we were staying at a museum.

The next day we hired a local drone operator to take some amazing footage of Nicole and Miami for her video.  It was great working with a local crew and the footage came out amazing at an empty South Beach.

That night we went out to explore Miami nightlife. We went downtown to El Tucan restaurant where we saw dancing and a live band perform cuban music.  The food was amazing and the show was a lot of fun.

We also went to a club and eventually went to bed around 4am.  The next day was cold and rainy.  We went out for a late lunch to have some famous Joe's Stone Crab and make our way to the airport.

We had a great time. The weather could have been warmer/sunnier but we made the most of it.

Check out the video I edited for Nicole:
